Cardinal John Dearden

(1907-1988) ~ Inducted 1980

Cardinal John Dearden, 1907-1988, became Archbishop of Detroit, Michigan, ministering  a flock of 1,200,000 Catholics. Born John Dearden in Valley Falls, he began his education at The Holy Trinity School in Central Falls. Ordained a priest in Rome by Cardinal Francesco Marchetti Selvaggiani in 1932, he served as Bishop of Pittsburgh, and has authored national educational programs devoted to principles of justice.
